The events of the 1968 Summer Olympics is the primary inspiration behind the initial MELI Modern collection. A special edition patch made up of suede and threading is stitched on the back of a select few garments. This patch is a symbol of the acts of Tommie Smith and John Carlos, who raised their fists in support of the Civil Rights movement. They sought out active forms of protests and advocated for racial pride and black nationalism. Peter Norman stood with the two through solidarity. MELI campaigns are in line with the messaging behind the story.
